Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls is located in the middle of Zambezi River at the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The Length of Victoria Falls is 1,700 meters and standing at a height between 80 and 108 meters depending on the season. The waterfalls were named after Queen Victoria of Great Britain by a Scottish missionary.

The locals called it Mosi-o-Tunya “The smoke that thunders” because of its noise and water splashes. The local African tribes had a sacred fear of Victoria Falls and were afraid to approach it.

Victoria Falls is in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Opposite the waterfall there is a basalt rock, entirely covered with tropical forest. The forest’s ecosystem depends on the waterfall. The waterfall supplies energy to several cities in Zimbabwe and Zambia.

It is one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Humans lived around the waterfalls continuously for about two million years.

The functions of the Victoria Falls are not limited only to being an attraction for millions of tourists, it is also very important economically.

There are many activities in the Victoria such as:

  • Half-Day Nature Walk in Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park from Livingstone.
  • Bungee Jump, Bridge Swing or Zip-line from the Victoria Falls Bridge
  • It is also possible to river surf, kayak, and enjoy heart stopping gorge swings.

  • Devil’s Pool – One of the most interesting entertainments in Victoria Falls is a natural pool mostly unknown to the majority of tourists. It is separated from the abyss only by a narrow bridge. No wonder that this place is called the Devil’s Pool. It is a width of about ten meters and located next to the cliff near Livingstone Island. Entering the pool is forbidden during the high water season, as the bathers can be carried by the stream into the abyss.
